About 250 million years ago, the land that is now New Jersey was immediately adjacent to the land that is now the Western Sahara desert, in Africa. New Jersey still contains rocks from the African plate. At that time, all of the Earths continents were joined into one supercontinent, called Pangaea. Rifts formed, and the supercontinent split into several different continents. Were it not for the locations of the splits, we may not have Gov. Christie?
