About 40 Soldiers and civilian employees from the U.S. Army Engineer School at Fort Leonard Wood visited the Sprint Headquarters and conducted a staff ride to the Civil War battlefield in Lexington, MO. The purpose of the visit and staff ride was to further the professional development of U.S. Army leaders and enhance the esprit de corps among senior leaders of the Engineer Regiment. The two-day trip started Thursday, Sept. 4 at the Sprint Headquarters in Kansas City. After the visit to Sprint, the trip’s focus shifted toward the Battle of Lexington State Historic Site. the staff got a firsthand look at the Machpelah Cemetery, Hinesley House, the Lexington Courthouse and the Battlefield Visitor Center. During each stop, the staff discussed what happened at that point in the battle and attempt to relate past lessons learned to today’s modern Army. In order to gain a better understanding of the commanders, tactics and environmental factors which influenced the outcome of the battle, staff members also conducted briefs on the battle’s major figures.
