About 400 people tonight at meetings in Ailesbury, Kilnamanagh and Knocklyon to organise against the water charges. Looks like the division of protesters and scaring people away that the media is all of a sudden so worried about isnt happening after all. What we have seen in the last days is a tiny bubble of politicians and political correspondents, who re-enforce each others view of the world. Thats how that they get to the point of being utterly out of touch with the reality of what people face. Whereby they are shocked and horrified at the fact that the Tanaiste is met with angry protest when she goes to visit one of the communities affected by her actions. Im not going to demonise protesters in Tallaght or Sligo or Limerick who take the opportunity they get to give a strong message to those imposing this hardship. Many tried to give that message at the last general election by voting for Labour. Their hopes were undemocratically betrayed. Does the media just expect them to wait quietly for the next election? People have risen up in large numbers for the first time in a long time in the last couple of months. They will not be bought off by a tiny carrot. Nor will they be scared off by obvious demonisation of protesters. I stand with them.
