About 7 years ago Sharon Smart asked Gary Jantzen and Dick Theil to take on training Charlie in carpentry. So, they worked together on building projects in Guatemala for a month or 2 every winter for about 7 years. Charlie spoke excellent English since he was treated at Cincinnati Shriners for about 7 years. Gary did not meet him until Charlie was back in Guatemala. This is so sad. Charlie was a kind, gentle young man who had overcome so much in his life. He was always willing to help. We will never go to Pana that we dont think of him. One of the guys favorite stories about him is when the waiters would give them an English menu and Charlie a Spanish one. Charlie went to school in the US and could read English not Spanish! As a child he learned to speak it but not read it. He didnt let losing a good part of his feet from the electrical accident as a child stop him. He was a good role model for the handicap. Charlie, you are loved and you will be missed!
