About 80 people filled the Tawas City chamber halls today October 2, 2014. The guts of the meeting started off with Dave Schantz making a motion to move public comments up first on the agenda. The motion was denied 5 to 1. Dave Schantz as the only yes vote. Next on the agenda, a motion to accept Mayor Kelly’s resignation. Once again, Schantz, making a motion not to accept the Mayor’s resignation. Motion denied. Mayor Kelly’s resignation accepted 5 to 1. Not one council member had the courage to look up to the public, except Dave Schantz, who stood strong. Next agenda item…appoint a Mayor Pro Tem…and guess who that was?? Dave Dickman, by a 5 to 1 vote. Next order of business…public comment. Only eight people, which was just enough, were needed to stand and speak a story of disappointment and disgust about 1. A couple arrested for having chickens. 2. An elected official being badgered and put under extreme duress resulting in him signing a resignation (And yes) I was scared shitless that I had done something SERIOUSLY criminally wrong. With a press release? Anyways.. You all know that story… I live by God’s preaching’s and common sense, sometimes you just have to take a stand and I guess I’m the guy this time. But, I’m proud to be this guy… Appreciate all my Facebook friends, allies and the social media for letting me tell my story and sharing the Hurst family’s. Next step: recall petition creation for Janel Walmsley and Dave Dickman. Make sure the city follows through with an amended ordinance on the chickens. Cleaning the house as the public decides…..well that’s the way it’s supposed to work right? Take a stand with me… Thank you for reading. Keep a close eye for few months….
