About MESA: MESA, the Mechanical Engineering Students Association of VARDHAMAN COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING, aims to play a pivotal role in the development of students as engineers by various out-of-curriculum and extra-curricular activities. MESA aims to inculcate among its members an awareness and appreciation of the various disciplines of not just Mechanical Engineering but also other relevant fields. By way of its activities MESA aims to be a platform for all the students of VARDHAMAN in general and particularly of the students of ME department. MESA seeks to be an active organization of the ME department which promotes their career interests. Our Vision: To Encourage Scientific Spirit By Spreading Scientific Knowledge About Us: MESA, Mechanical Engineering Students Association, one of the earliest of technical students Association at VARDHAMAN was founded in 2014. The association was given official status by the department of Mechanical Engineering,VCE. Dr. Perumalla Janaki Ramulu is the first official Faculty advisor of MESA appointed by the HOD. Mr. Akshay & Mr. Venkat is the first President and Vice-President respectively. Right now, we have different sub-committees which are consistently monitored by the executive committee. Today, MESA with its highly dedicated executive committee under the able guidance of faculty advisor and HOD is committed to achieve its goals. Objectives: 1. To focus on the cutting edge technology and present it to the students in an interesting manner by means of lectures/talks, magazine articles, workshops, industrial trips etc. 2. Promoting the interests of students in various technical areas pertaining to mechanical engineering. 3. Giving relevant information to students to sustain their interest in their field-specific applications of ME. 4. Providing students of the department with relevant knowledge of inter-disciplinary subjects, given the broad domain of ME. 5. To spread awareness among the students about the scope for various career options. 6. To convey timely information to students on the various research opportunities for internships and higher studies available in India and abroad. 7. To act as an interface between the students and the faculty and strive for improvement in student-faculty interaction. 8. Providing a platform for interaction between senior and junior students of the department by organizing social gatherings like fresher’s welcome and farewell to the passing out batches. 9. Interacting with other technical societies, within and outside the institute to promote flow of knowledge. CONSTITUTION: Article 1: STATEMENT OF PURPOSE The organization is responsible for the governing of the student affairs within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Vardhaman College of Engineering, shall be known as the Mechanical Engineering Students Association (hereafter referred to as MESA). Article 2: OBJECTIVES OF MESA 1. To focus on the cutting edge technology and present it to the students in an interesting manner by means of lectures/talks, magazine articles, workshops, industrial trips etc. 2. Promoting the interests of students in various technical areas pertaining to mechanical engineering. 3. Giving relevant information to students to sustain their interest in their field-specific applications of ME. 4. To promote the interaction between academia and industry by organizing industrial trips, special lectures and facilitate in industrial training. Article 3: MEMBERSHIP Eligibility: All students registered in the engineering undergraduate/Postgraduate program in the department of Mechanical Engineering at the Vardhaman College of Engineering, are eligible for membership. Article 4: GOVERNMENT The affairs of the MESA shall be governed by the Executive Committee. Section A: Executive Committee 1. Composition The Executive shall be composed of the following positions: i. MESA Governor (HOD) ii. MESA Chief Advisor (1) iii. Faculty Advisers (3 members; year wise Adviser) Duties a) The executive Committee shall: be responsible for carrying out the objectives of the MESA as outlined in Article 1: Statement of Purpose. Report in full and make available to All members of the MESA details of any activity and decisions on their behalf. b) The Faculty Advisers Shall: give the charge to President who has been elected/selected from the final year (BTech) students; be responsible for signing the money transactions of MESA account. Without his signature no financial transaction is allowed from the account of MESA; give his valuable advice to the President/Vice President; be responsible for election of new President in case of failure/resignation/misconduct of current President. c) The President Shall: act as the chairperson of the Executive Committee. act as a final year B.Tech Students representative. be responsible for the formation of Associations Policy. be responsible for all decisions and actions taken by the Executive Committee. regularly brief the faculty advisor of MESA regarding various activities, plans and the progress made. assign new duties to members of the Executive Committee as they arise. The Executive Committee must feel responsible for such assignments. be responsible for calling meetings of the MESA. d) The Vice President Shall: act as vice chairman of the Executive Committee. take care of all the official work of MESA in absence of the President. make step by step plans for various activities and events. maintain active involvement in the operation of MESA by the President. assist in the performance of the Presidents duties as commissioned by the President. e) The Website Secretary Shall: be the head of Website committee. be responsible for organizing the meetings of Website committee members. be responsible for development and maintenance of the website of MESA. be responsible for collecting materials for the website from students, faculties and other sources. he may or may not be the webmaster. f) The Publication Secretary Shall: be the head of Publication Committee. be responsible for organizing the meetings of Publication Committee members. invite and collect articles from students as well as faculty members. make arrangements for the publication of the MESA magazine. g) The Sponsor Secretary Shall: be the head of Sponsor committee. be responsible for organizing the meetings of Sponsor Committee members. be responsible for getting funds from commercial organization/companies for MESAs activities like magazine publication, industrial trip, workshops etc. be the link between executive committee and sponsors. h) The Secretary, Activity Group Shall: be be the head of Activity Group of MESA. be responsible for organizing the meetings of Activity group members. make arrangements for lectures/talks/workshops. make the arrangements for industrial trips. be responsible for printing MESA/Department T-Shirts. i) The Treasurer Shall: be responsible for monitoring MESA funds and account. maintain a record of all financial transactions of MESA. be responsible for collecting money from MESA members and faculty against receipt. Assist the President in preparation of Annual Budget of MESA. j) The Batch Representative of 2nd Year B.Tech Students Shall: represent the B.Tech 2nd Year Students Community. He should act as a link between B.Tech 2nd Year Students and the Executive Committee. coordinate the involvement of B.Tech second year Mechanical Engineering students in the activities of MESA. will put forward the demands, suggestions & complaints of 2nd Year B.Tech students to the Executive Committee. k) The Batch Representative of M.Tech students Shall: represent the M.Tech Students Community. He should act as a link between M.Tech students and the Executive Committee. coordinate the involvement of M.Tech Mechanical Engineering students in the activities of MESA. will put forward the demands, suggestions & complaints of M.Tech Students to the Executive Committee. l) The Placement Secretary Shall: be the head of placements. be responsible for address collection of various industries and contacting with placements cell. be responsible for getting appointments from the industries. Article 5: OPERATIONS AND PROCEDURES Section A: Election Procedures a) All the Executive members will be selected based on the voting of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students of Mechanical Engineering and also M.Tech 1st and 2nd year students of same department. b) The exact procedure of election/selection will be determined by MESA Governor, Chief Advisor and Faculty Advisors. c) Elections will be conducted by the Election committee members under supervision of MESA Governor, Chief Advisor and Faculty Advisors. e) Once the Executive Committee is formed, the secretaries of different committees shall be responsible to form their committee by electing members as per the eligibility criterion by the advice of the President. Section B: Vacancies a) An Executive Committee position shall be declared vacant by a meeting of the Executive Committee when: i) The qualifications for the position are no longer met. ii) A written resignation is received by the President from said member. iii) An impeachment removes the member. b) The President will have the right to nominate a suitable person from the existing members of MESA for the vacant position of the Executive Committee by the advice of the faculty advisor of MESA. c) The President will have the right to nominate a suitable person from the existing members of MESA for the vacant position of the members of the different committees of MESA by the advice of the respective secretaries. d) If the President is found non-functioning or he gives a written resignation then the faculty advisor of MESA shall be responsible for electing new President from the B.Tech final year batch. Section C: Working Committee Meeting The working committee meeting shall be held at least once every month. In this meeting all the working members of MESA must be present. This meeting will be chaired by the President. Further meetings may be called on the approval of the Executive Committee. The President must give one week notice for this meeting. All motions, excluding constitutional amendments, presented at this meeting must be approved by a simple majority of the votes cast to be passed. Section D: Constitutional Amendments a) Amendments to the constitution may only be made at the Executive Committee meeting. b) Any proposed amendment to the MESA Constitution must be submitted to the President at least one week prior to the Executive Committee meeting. c) The President shall post all proposed constitution amendments one week after the Executive Committee meeting. d) All constitutional amendments must be approved by two-third of the members present at Executive Committee meeting. Section E: Records a) Copies of the minutes of all Executive Committee and Working Committee meetings shall be compiled and bound by the Vice President. b) Copies of all financial statements and a year-end financial breakdown of all activities shall be compiled and bound by the Treasurer. c) All aforementioned records shall be retained for a period of not less than five years and shall be the responsibility of the President in office.
