About Save Shem Creek Corp. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the iconic waterway that serves as the cultural heart of Mount Pleasant. Description The organization believes that Town leaders should respect and adhere to established guidance documents put in place to safeguard the waterway, including the 2002 report Preserving the Character of Shem Creek. On a larger level, Save Shem Creek Corp. favors sensible growth and development that maintains the unique coastal character of Mount Pleasant. Emphasis is placed on traditional building design, modest scale, inviting streetscapes and promotion of the shrimping industry consistent with the Town’s heritage. Save Shem Creek Corp. values transparency and active citizen involvement in municipal decision-making, the exchange of ideas without fear of retaliation, civil discourse, and the integrity of all participants as essential tools to maintain the health and welfare of the Town. Contributions to Save Shem Creek Corp. are to be allocated toward raising awareness and educating Mount Pleasant residents and elected officials on the relevant development issues impacting the area; consultation with planning consultants, engineers and related professionals; ensuring proper legal counsel, representation and advocacy when necessary to protect the character of our Town against detrimental decisions made by the Towns current administration; and securing similar resources that may aide in meeting our goals. Donations move directly to the organization’s bank account, and 100% of the funds raised will go toward meeting the stated goals since there are no associated overhead costs. SSCC’s officers are long-time, as well as newer, residents of Mount Pleasant who are devoted to its overall health and welfare.
