About Us Our logo is the most important visual expression of our brand. The Shield The ultimate function of a shield is to ensure safety and protection, which is the ultimate function of PSIRA. The shield is not just any kind of shield, but an African shield, to show that it’s for all South Africans at large, irrespective of culture. It’s a symbol of taking pride in being African. Known for their craftsmanship, African shields serve as defensive weaponry in warfare, emblems of status and rank and accessories in dance performances. Because the shield is also used in dance performances, here, it becomes a symbol of celebration for PSIRA, and the nation at large for having overcome the oppression of the past. It’s a symbol of celebration for freedom and democracy in South Africa. The Lion The lion on the shield is a symbol of the character of PSIRA as an organisation. Lions are known for being the ‘king of the jungle’. PSIRA is an organisation in authority. Its mandate is to regulate the private security industry, and has an act in place. It is a strong organisation that is capable of leading, regulating and carrying out its full mandate. In the same way as the lion protects its territory, so does PSIRA; In the same way as the lion protects its own, so does PSIRA in protecting the fundamental constitutional right of South Africans to life, safety and dignity through effective promotion and regulation of the private security industry. The Colours The colours used in the logo are inspired by our African cultures and landscape. The pattern on the shield is inspired by our African shield patterns. The 3 lines at the top and bottom stand for three primary elements that PSIRA protect - life, safety and dignity. Different shades of browns are used to reflect the diversity found in our South African cultures and races, and yet can all come together in harmony and unity. The Font Verdana bold is used as the primary font to show PSIRA’s authoritative power and function, with light, welcoming colours on the ‘i’ to portray that it is still accessible and willing to help those that are in the same industry. The ‘i’ is highlighted show emphasise that this is where you can get information. The ‘i’ stands for independent, increasing, influential, informative, initiative and inspirational, which are word that we want PSIRA to be associated with as an organisation. All in all, this logo represents PSIRA to be organised and corporate, with well trained and efficient staff. The name of the institution is “The Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority”. In some cases, it is necessary to use our legal name rather than PSIRA. (e.g. legal documents and press releases). In these cases, it should always appear in copy with initial caps, normal word spacing. It does not have comma, It should appear in a typeface consistent with the overall document in which it appears. It is not a logo and should not appear with a unique graphic treatment.
