About Year ago, on 24th September 2013, a massive earthquake was recorded near southern coast of Pakistan (Awaran district, Baluchistan) , which measured 7.7 in magnitude, has claimed 825+ lives, injured more than 750. About 85% to 90% of the homes in the Awaran district had collapsed or were damaged. Most of the victims were crushed when the walls of their mud brick houses caved in. The earthquake was apparently powerful enough to raise a small island (Zalzala Jazeera, about 350 meters (1,150 ft.) to 1 kilometer (0.62 mi) off the shore of Gwadar) The reason I am posting this message is because, a year has been passed, since that devastating earthquake, people of Awaran are still waiting for the financial assistance promised by provincial government (promised to pay annually Rs. 80,000 per family in Awaran, for three years, so that the victims can rebuilt their hut type houses) No Funds Allocated In Budget 2014, For Earthquake Affected Baluchistan Districts. Although the government helped launch rebuilding of 16,000 destroyed houses by providing Rs. 220,000 to each affected family in the first phase of the reconstruction, but no plan was made for the reconstruction of the destroyed roads, schools, hospitals, water supply schemes and other government buildings. Political parties like PPP, ML(N,Q..),a to zee)promises a lot but delivered nothing but photo sessions. PTI promise of Model Village & Help but they forget with time. Bahria Model Town was promised in Awaran, nothing happened just foundation Stone Laid there in January, 2014. Only some foreign NGO’s and NEG’O like (FIF, Al-Khidmat Foundation, Jaish-e-Mohammad’s, Al Khair Trust etc.) are still working there. Jihadist parties are also working there (later they can recruit/ create new jihadist from there). This situation is alarming. It is time the media turns its attention to the worsening situation in Pakistan largest province, and sensitizes the government and the opposition to the urgency of doing something substantial to address the challenge facing the country.
