About a half hour into Inherent Vice, with about 2 hours to go, I suddenly realized--Oh, this is a COMEDY, because the Golden Globes nominated Joaquin Phoenix in that category. So I laughed a few times, and soon finally had another realization--oh, yea, Phoenix is playing a Private Eye. Because up til then I thought he was playing the dude from The Big Lebowski. If you read Thomas Pynchons novel -- which OF COURSE I DID NOT--youll probably really enjoy this, but I only found a few spots worth my time, like Martin Shorts amazing ten minute scene. My rating, 3.125, for #86 of 131 seen so far for 2014.
