About a year ago an idea came to my parental mind. I decided that my kids need if not to acquire a refined taste in music but at least to diversify their choices of available performers. Having a deep understanding of how my childrens brains work a strategy had been carefully picked. Every now and then I would create a new music CD for the car (yes I am not yet in a possession of a bluetooth car audio) where in addition to the usual modern recitings of non-rhyming poetry aka Rihanna, 50cent and Britney Spears I would inject genuine pearls of musical excellence some of them being Freddie Mercury, Michael Jackson and a truly great russian singer Alla Pugacheva who recently became a mother again (God bless her years). The idea behind this insidious plan was simple: unwillingly and somewhat forcefully the children would start getting exposure to the new stuff thus having the tunes, voices and words imprinted in their minds. With time this kind of music as well as the idea of listening to new performers would not sound alien to them and I would be able to extend my plan to more complicated styles such as hard rock, jazz and even classical pieces. About a year ago another remarkable event happened in my family. A third daughter Shelly had been born. This fantastic development brought many sleepless nights to my beloved wife who during the first year bravely fended off Shellys attempts to keep her father awake at all costs. The youngster didnt behave nicely in the car either. And here the two stories collide. We started noticing that on the CD number one which I have prepared for my elder daughters a specific song has an especially soothing effect on Shelly. It was dumbfounding since the melody had nothing in common with the familiar lullabies which are supposedly best in keeping babies at bay. Britney Spearss song Oops I did it again completely captivated Shellys mind keeping her quiet for prolonged periods of time. Moreover, playing this song at night made putting her asleep simply a doddle! It was fascinating! It was a miracle! Britney Spears basically saving us from arduous evenings spent convincing our baby daughter to stay asleep. There is only one problem. However reverent I am to Britney for her life saving voice I am starting to develop serious intolerance for her music. I dont think anyone has listened to Oops I did it again more then me and my family. I wholeheartedly wish Britney long years, prosperity and artistic success. But I will never ever ever listen voluntarily to her songs. Not in this life span.
