About four years ago, a team of youthful players namely Eric Masika,Solomon Nasio,Musa Mohamed, Jerrim Onyango, Edwin lavasta, Anthony Akumu, Kevin Omondi,George Odhiambo et al . these young lads had been sourced from their respective schools by then gor coach James Sianga .the Gor tactician christened these youngsers the DREAM TEAM. True to his words this team lived up to its billing. from there henceforth the youth development philosophy was embraced and has been practised by successive Gor Technical Benchs. no single season has ever started or ended with Gor failing to sign a youthful player and most important giving that playerconsiderable playing time in competitive matches. It saddens me to acknowledge that the ABC of youth development has proven to be rocket science to successive AFC regimes.many are the times that promising talents have been wasted and dumped at the altar of impatience. Its even paradoxical that AFC is compelled to spend astronomical amount of cash acquiring an already matured player the very player the club dropped at his formative stages in the industry; like the expensive foreign coffee that is grown in kenya but processed overseas. There is alot hype currently among the fans about the much touted U19 squad. My conviction is ,this excitement is informed by selfish interests from both the club and the fans . selfish because for the fans it is about the desperation and the pride that comes with having an U19 team in the tournament. for the club of course is the monetary reward that comes in the event the team brings glory. My big question, do we as fans think about the welfare of the young lads that is career progression? what for instance happened to last years U19team. And for the few players that we copted in the senior team, how come none has enjoyed an iota of cameo appearance. why will Timonah Wanyonyi admit publicly that he could not come to AFC directly because he needed a club that would give him more playing time so that when he comes to AFC he has guaranteed to be on the first team. SAY NO TO EXPLOITATION .I DONT SUPPORT THE PARTICIPATION OF AFC IN U19 TOURNAMENT FOR IT IS A FACADE OF HYPOCRICY NB :you give abusive comments on my post I delete them ASAP.
