About major non-NATO ally status: Ukraine is in dire need of an ally today. An ally who would help Ukraine defend its independence and territorial integrity from Russian aggression. An ally who understands and supports Ukraine’s fight for democratic and free society. This ally is the United States of America. Obtaining major non-NATO ally status is vital for Ukraine because of the following benefits that this status provides: 1) The ability to work on cooperative research and development projects with the Department of Defense and provision of reciprocal training – these are benefits that will help Ukraine rebuild its army after it was undermined by lack of financing, the work of Russian agents and spies. 2) Priority delivery of military surplus, loans of equipment and materials, and permission to use American financing for the purchase or lease of defense equipment – this will help Ukraine protect its borders and territorial integrity in the current conflict with Russia, will provide the ability to acquire new equipment for immediate need, and will spare us from waiting for Ukraine’s own production of required defense products. 3) Participation in counter-terrorism initiatives – both Ukraine and the US continue to suffer from international terrorism. Exchange of information and the military expertise of the US will be a vital piece in Ukraine’s ability to protect itself from terrorist acts.
