About men lifting and transferring people in hospitals, nursing homes, etc. Lifting weights is not the same as lifting people. Because a person is a man, even a big man, doesnt mean he can do it himself without help or proper equipment, even if hes built like Arnold Schwarzenegger in his prime. 1. Weightlifting equipment supports the back. If the bench is adjustable any major lifting can be done with heavy weights safely either flat, inclined or even sitting. This is especially so with machines. 2. The poundage of weights are evenly balanced and made for lifting convenience...not people. 3. The man who can lift 500lbs off the floor with NO injury can suffer serious injury lifting a 100lb person out of a wheelchair or pulling someone out of a bed. Why? Because there is NO back support, he cant bend his knees to protect his back and the weight isnt perfectly balanced. Understand now? It doesnt matter what the gender or size and strength of the person. Be smart. Help, get help and use proper equipment/tools. Also, dont look at someone funny because they wont pull or lift someone alone even if they are male, male and large or even male and VERY large. Pulling is harder and more dangerous than pushing and its his back, not yours.
