About the mma-bjj discussion....Ground techniques do exit in Okinawan marti al art, but not the type you will see in a Ju Jitsu or MMA match. Those are great in a 1-1 fight with rules but can get you killed on the street or in a battle field. Please refer to the book from Higaonna ( the history of Karate) or old books from Funakoshi or . The few Ne- waza techniques used in MMA come from Judo. Old judo matches ( known today as Kosen Judo and still practiced in some Japanese universities) had no time limit.Students were going straight to the ground in matches and focused their training more on Ne- Waza ( ground ) at the expense of Nage-Waza . Both are equally important for Budo training. Kosen Judo became less popular after Sensei Jigoro Kano got fed up with people spending a long time on the ground and changed the rules. Maeda sensei ( who taught the Gracies) and the famous Kimura ( who gave them a lesson ) were both experts in Kosen Judo. Kanos point is that time on the ground should be minimized to reflect a real situation. You adversary might have a knife or friend slurking around .The video below in which a couple of experienced MMA guys get in serious trouble illustrates the point.: https://youtube/watch?v=tYhGHb-wWxM.
