About this Obama LatteSalute Everyone knows I strongly dislike the dude. But the practice of the President saluting the Marines after landing is fairly recent. It was started by Reagan because he felt uncomfortable not returning a salute. And Obama is not the first one to salute while holding something. Bush did it often with his dog in hand. Also, even though the President is Constitutionally the Commander in Chief, he really is a civilian not a member of the US Military and civillians are not required to salute. The military salute is a privilege earned for honorable service, and that privilege can be taken away, ie. military prisoners are stripped of the privilege. Some Presidents earned the privilege through military service, such as both Bushs, Reagan, Kennedy and Carter. Obama and Clinton did not earn that privilege because they did not serve in the military. The real outrage in the video is he arrived for the UN summit about climate change drinking from a disposable cup!
