About this page One of the most important elements of a piece writing or speech is its title. The title we selected for this page is the phrase English in Todays Events and Literature. In this first post were going to explain what we mean by this title. Events and literature are happenings and writings. An event is something (especially something important or notable) that happens. (MWD) Literature is defined as printed materials (such as booklets, leaflets, and brochures) that provide information about something. (MWD) So by events and literature, I mean the happenings and their written descriptions. The genitive form todays equals the adjective current which means happening or existing now: belonging to or existing in the present time. (MWD) In practice, when people use the word now, they dont only mean the exact point of time which is the end of the past and the start of the future. Instead, they use it inclusively, in a way that includes both the exact now and the period of time around it. In this way, they name a day, a week a month, a year or even a decade or a century, as now as well as the moment of speaking or writing. For example, compared to past or future centuries, we can even describe our century as now. Keeping this in mind we can say that the phrase current events and literature applies to all events and literature of our century or even more. By English in current events and literature, I mean the English language that has been used or has to be used. The term English in the current literature applies to language that has already been used and we want to interpret it. On the other hand, the term English in the current events refers to the English words or structures that we need for expressing the ideas we have about the events which we observe. As a conclusion we should keep in mind that some of the posts we put on this page attempt to explain some expressions used in the literature of our time. On the other hand, some other posts may try to help readers how to describe an event theyve already observed and want to tell others about it, in English.
