About this time every year, newspapers (such as, this week, The Washington Post), magazines and especially websites (like The Huffington Post) put out articles that question whether Jesus ever existed. People who have not studied history and/or who dont understand how historical study works are sometimes persuaded by these sensationalist and frankly ridiculous articles. Even worse, Christians sometimes (who dont understand historical scholarship) read these articles and get panicked about their beliefs. As a pastor and former history teacher who has devoted YEARS of study to the Bible and ancient history, I can assure you theres no credible reason to doubt the historicity of Jesus. If you have any questions about this, I hope youll reach out to me. Dont let articles designed to boost ratings and sell papers/magazines cause you anxiety. You can reach out to me in confidence, and Ill be happy to point you to credible (even non-Christian) resources that help clear up any doubts or confusion you may have. Take it to the bank: Jesus is real.
