Our text above talks about a good conscience because it is possible to have a bad conscience even as a believer. If your conscience is Gods voice there will be no good and bad conscience because Gods voice cannot be good and bad. The Bible talks a lot about the good conscience and it also talks about consciences that are not good. A conscience that is not good can either be a weak conscience or a seared conscience. God wants the voice of our spirit to be in agreement with His voice, but we have to program our spirits to align with Gods Spirit. Our conscience gives us what we put inside it. Thats why God says He wants there to be truth in our inward parts, Psalm 51:6. The Word of God sanctifies our conscience. The Word of God is Truth. Your conscience is as good as the quality of truth that is inside you. You shall know the Truth and the Truth shall set you free. In 2Corinthians 7:1, Apostle talked about the filthiness of the flesh and of the spirit. A filthy spirit is a conscience that is full of garbage; full of lies and falsehood instead of Gods Truth. One major strategy of the devil is to pollute the conscience of believers in order to lure them into error and evil. When Gods Truth is not in your conscience, it will give you a false witness. It would not be able to guide you in the path of Truth. Filling yourself with Gods Truth guards your conscience from the devils lies and falsehood.
