Above, behind, and on the bit-----more. If you have ever spent - TopicsExpress

Above, behind, and on the bit-----more. If you have ever spent much time at any good upper level dressage training place, you will notice how much emphasis is placed upon good rider posture, coupled with the totally independent seat. Those riders dont slouch and they dont bounce. Part of getting the horse to be on the bit, rather than above or behind, comes from what Ive heard described as negotiated driving aids into negotiated restraining aids, and its hard to negotiate in any subtle way if you are flopping around up there. SO---GET A GOOD SEAT if you want to become more than an entry level rider. It really is that basic. You cant have independent hands, independent posture, independent use of legs, independent anything, if the concussive effects of the back of the moving horse flail you around to the extent that your only escape is to post or hover. You have to become a harmonious part of the moving horse. Can you ride if you are not? Yes. Can you win lots of blue ribbons if you are not? Yes. Can you get your beaming picture on horse magazine covers if you are not? Yes. Would Jack Le Goff consider you a good rider if you are not? If you lack a good seat? Not in a million years.
