Abraham Lincoln once said, “You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by encouraging class hatred. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn. You cannot build character and courage by taking away man’s initiative and independence. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.” Wow! See how far our wisdom has progressed...yet not in a positive way. Almost every decision being made by our elected officials is in direct conflict to President Lincoln’s advice. Could it be because we have strayed from the advice given to us by God? The writer of Psalms 110:10 tells us: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth forever.” May we return to a nation whose God is The Lord (Psalm 33:12) that wisdom might return before it is too late. God, forgive us for straying from You and Your principals. Help us to seek leaders who are willing to listen and obey You in the making of their decisions. Amen.
