Abrahams faith was demonstrated by his works. But if God had not directed him to offer up Isaac, Abraham would not have been moving in faith and his actions would have been evil. So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17) Jesus pinpointed why the Pharisees could not believe: they were taking their cue from each other, and not from God. Instead of seeking the honor that comes from God only and wanting His reward, they were more interested in receiving honor one from another, and winning each others praises. Dont be eager to discover what any person outside of God desires you to do. Dont conform your actions to what will gain their smile or escape their frown. In doing so, your works may end up being as evil as the Pharisees rejection of Christ. For whatsoever is not of faith is sin. (Romans 14:23) How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only? (John 5:44)
