Abrahams life of faith as described in Hebrews 11:8-10 was lived - TopicsExpress

Abrahams life of faith as described in Hebrews 11:8-10 was lived in a way that had a duel focus. He was focused on Gods promises as they related to this earth and this world system, but beyond that his eyes of faith were fixed on a much bigger prize that was eternal in nature. Note what it says in verses 9-10, And even when he reached the land God promised him, he lived there by faith—for he was like a foreigner, living in tents. And so did Isaac and Jacob, who inherited the same promise. 10 Abraham was confidently looking forward to a city with eternal foundations, a city designed and built by God. In other words even when Abraham entered into the land that God promised He didnt get too comfortable there knowing that his true reward and the ultimate fulfillment of all of Gods promises would be in the eternal future--in the eternal city. We no longer sing songs that remind us of our eternal home and that we are but strangers and pilgrims on this earth, but perhaps we should once and awhile. Because of our heavenly calling, we may never be totally comfortable here on earth because we have a mission here on earth that goes beyond being comfortable. Our mission (should we decide to accept it) is to be ambassadors of Christ who help others to experience the grace and the love of God. Sometimes the nature of our mission makes us a little uncomfortable in the here and now, but one day we will rejoice as we see those who were touched by our lives join us in our heavenly habitation. ©kip preachin~2014
