Abu Ibraheem Hussnayn After I gave the jumuah khutbah today, a - TopicsExpress

Abu Ibraheem Hussnayn After I gave the jumuah khutbah today, a brother came to me and asked to speak to me. He was very offended that I had spoken about Eid Milaad and I had said it was an innovation and haram to participate in. So we sat and had a discussion. His entire argument was based on emotions. I asked him if the prophet (salAllahu alayhi wa sallam) celebrated it, he said no. I asked if the companions did it, he said no. I asked if the first three generations celebrated it, he said no. So I asked what makes him think he knows better than they did? All he kept replying was that we send durood and read nice poems so are you saying it is haram to send durood? I kept trying to emphasise to stick to the book and the sunnah but he wasnt having it. Finally he came out with - show me an ayah from Quran or a hadeeth that says we cant celebrate it I told him that from now on, I would pray 5 rakahs for Fajr instead of the obligatory 2 - and asked him to show me evidence that I cant do this. I also said I would now make 10 circuits in tawaf around the kabah instead of 7 - and asked for a verse of the Quran or a hadith to say I cant. The point I was trying to get him to understand was that if you claim something is an act of worship and will be rewarded by Allah then you must have evidence from the Quran and Sunnah. If you dont, then it will be rejected. Eventually, I said I would pray 500 rakahs for Fajr because there was no evidence to say I couldnt (according to his logic) and he replied that you can if you want and that only Allah can judge When it came to this, I ended the discussion. In reality, many people use such silly arguments and evidences to justify their innovations but they are either lacking in knowledge or they are insincere. He had made his mind up before we even spoke that milad was something good and should be done, therefore he wasnt listening to what I was saying, rather he was simply waiting for me to finish so he could say his bit. Allahs aid is sought. May Allah keep us sincere!
