Abu Qatadah reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was on a journey and he sidetracked from the path, so I went with him. He said, “Look!” I said, “There is a rider, and two riders, and three,” until we became seven riders. He said, “Guard our prayer for us,” meaning the dawn prayer, but they fell into a deep sleep and they were only awakened because of the heat of the sun. So they stood up and continued for a short while, then camped and performed ablution. Bilal performed the call to prayer and they prayed two cycles and then prayed the dawn prayer and continued to ride. They said to one another, “We have been careless in performing our prayers.” The Prophet said, “There is no carelessness in sleep. Verily, carelessness occurs while one is awake. If one of you unintentionally misses a prayer, let him pray it as soon as he remembers it and the next day at its time.” Source: Sunan Abu Dawud 437 Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Al-Albani أَبُو قَتَادَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ فِي سَفَرٍ لَهُ فَمَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمِلْتُ مَعَهُ فَقَالَ انْظُرْ فَقُلْتُ هَذَا رَاكِبٌ هَذَانِ رَاكِبَانِ هَؤُلَاءِ ثَلَاثَةٌ حَتَّى صِرْنَا سَبْعَةً فَقَالَ احْفَظُوا عَلَيْنَا صَلَاتَنَا يَعْنِي صَلَاةَ الْفَجْرِ فَضُرِبَ عَلَى آذَانِهِمْ فَمَا أَيْقَظَهُمْ إِلَّا حَرُّ الشَّمْسِ فَقَامُوا فَسَارُوا هُنَيَّةً ثُمَّ نَزَلُوا فَتَوَضَّئُوا وَأَذَّنَ بِلَالٌ فَصَلَّوْا رَكْعَتَيْ الْفَجْرِ ثُمَّ صَلَّوْا الْفَجْرَ وَرَكِبُوا فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ قَدْ فَرَّطْنَا فِي صَلَاتِنَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّهُ لَا تَفْرِيطَ فِي النَّوْمِ إِنَّمَا التَّفْرِيطُ فِي الْيَقَظَةِ فَإِذَا سَهَا أَحَدُكُمْ عَنْ صَلَاةٍ فَلْيُصَلِّهَا حِينَ يَذْكُرُهَا وَمِنْ الْغَدِ لِلْوَقْتِ 437 سنن أبي داود كِتَاب الصَّلَاةِ إنه لا تفريط في النوم إنما التفريط في اليقظة المحدث الألباني خلاصة حكم المحدث صحيح
