Abuja Natives Hail Minister for Shelving Bauchi Guber Bid The Original Inhabitants Youths and Women Empowerment Association has commended the Minister of FCT for harkening to their call to shelve his gubernatorial bid. A statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the President of the association, Commandant Isaac David also praised President Goodluck Jonathan for retaining the Bauchi-born Minister, even after his gubernatorial ambition had become public. The statement described the gesture of the FCT Minister in dropping his governorship bid as an outstanding act of patriotism. According to David, it is truly a great sacrifice in national interest for Senator Bala Mohammed to shelve his ambition to lead his people back home in Bauchi in deference to overriding national interest. Commandant David stated that it was the same nationalistic instinct that made the incumbent FCT Minister to stake his Senatorial seat in 2010 and stand up for constitutionalism and democratic stability during the protracted illness of former President Umar Musa Yar’Adua. He pledged the support of the vast majority of FCT indigenes for the Minister and the President as they implement the transformation agenda. According to him, the implementation of Senator Bala Mohammed’s various developmental programmes to their logical end would result in Abuja being transformed into a first class global mega city. Said Commandant David: “There is no denying the fact that Abuja is now on a fast lane to comprehensive economic, social, infrastructural and physical development under the leadership of President Goodluck Jonathan and Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed. The various multi-billion dollar projects currently going on, such as the light rail, the land swap, centenary city, Abuja Industrial Park, Abuja City Centre, Jabi Lake Resort, World Trade Centre, Aerotropolis City, the new City Gate and several others would certainly transform Abuja into the foremost capital city on the African continent and one of the top 20 mega cities in the world by the year 2018.” He added that Senator Mohammed now ranks in the same category as the famous Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al-Maktoum, the acclaimed builder of modern Dubai, a man who is reputed to have within a decade transformed Dubai from an obscure city into a veritable global hub. According to the Gbagyi youth leader, the acceptance of the FCT Minister to stay behind and continue with his good works in FCT is the best to have happened to the new federal capital city. The Abuja native youth leader said it was so because the various programmes and policies put together by the Minister would surely transform Abuja into the gateway for Nigeria’s much-awaited economic and socio-political development, which would see the country graduate from a third world country to a mega industrial nation. The Abuja indigenous youth activist thanked Senator Bala Mohammed for facilitating the appointment of many FCT indigenes into political positions. DAN AIYENAJE Media/PR 17/10/2014.
