Abundantly talented, dedicated and hard working young vocalist - a wonderful team of co-artists spiritedly supporting the budding artist with their best accompaniment and a packed (in fact, overflowing) house of discerning audience (including some senior artists like Vid. Srinath Tumkur , Vid. Anooru Dattatreya Sharma, Vid. Indira Sharma , Vid. Anant Vikram) sitting through a full 3 hours of chaste Karnatak Classical Vocal Concert and giving a standing ovation at the end.. as the organizer of nascent Krishna Kala Kendra, I couldn’t have asked for more in last evening’s monthly concert held at Sri Purandara Mantapa. Kumari Bhumika Madhusudan, a budding vocalist, daughter of Smt. Lakshmi Madhusudhan and Dr. K Madhusudhana and a very able disciple of Vid. Yashaswi Subbarao gave a spirited and mind boggling cracker of a concert. She was very ably and heartily supported by a team of highly talented co-artists, her Guru Vid. Yashaswi, an “A-Grade” artist of AIR, himself on Violin, the AIR’s “A-Top” Graded and most sought after artist Ganakalasri Vid. C Cheluvaraj on Mrudangam and brilliant Morsing artist, also AIR’s “A-Top” graded Layakala Pratibhamani Vid. B Rajashekar on Morsing. The presence of Tamburi (with Sri V Jagannatha Rao lending Tamburi support) lent dignity and a fine touch of tradition to the stage and the concert. Kumari Bhumika Madhusudan opened her concert with a customary Varna composed by Sri Patnam Subrahmanya Iyer, “Yera Naapai” in Thodi set to Aditala preparing herself for a wonderful display of talent ahead. She invoked Lord Vighneshwara with Sri Harikeshanallur Muttaiah Bhagavatar’s Gam Ganapate Namo Namo in Hamsadhwani Raga and set to Tishra Aditala. Following it up with Saint Shyama Shastry’s Marivere Gati Evvaramma (Ananda Bhairavi- Mishra Chapu), she chose Saint Thyagaraja’s Amma Raavamma ( Kalyani – Khanda Chaapu) for a detailed rendering, embellishing the beautiful kriti with Neraval at Thamarasa dala netru and Swaraprastara. She followed it up with a brief “Sogasu Chooda Tharama” ( Kannada Gowla- Roopaka). It was then that she embarked upon her debut to the beautiful world of Raaga – Thaana – Pallavi, the piece de resistance of the concert. Choosing the ever green and ever popular raga Thodi (in keeping with the rich tradition of presenting the Varna and the Main Item in the same raga) and Khanda Triputa Taala, she was at her best in detailed Alapane, rendering of the Pallavi “Kamalaasane Sundari Kamalavadane”. The Raagamalike (with Brindavani – Surya and Sumanisaranjani flowing pleasingly) mesmerized the audience. The percussion artists while giving whole hearted support during the rendering all of kritis, rose to greater heights in Thani avartanam receiving many rounds of applause from the audience. Kumari Bhumika later on presented Manmanobheeshtavaradam paying tributes to the Karnataka Sangeeta Pithamaha Saint Sri Purandara Dasaru and rendering three Devaranamas – Dasarendare Purandara Daasarayya, – Yashode Amma ( preceded with a tuneful Ugaabhoga – Kaalamel Malagi) and finally Maneyolagaado Govinda. She rounded up the concert with Tillana in Brindavani Raaga and Aditala. The full house greeted her with a much deserving several rounds of claps and ultimately, a standing ovation. Kudos to her Guru and her ever encouraging and supporting parents. I know of many such young, dedicated, abundantly talented and deserving artists whom I dream of hosting at our Krishna Kala Kendra. Sadly, it is only a “Monthly” affair. Feeling restless.. How about a Youth Fest?? Dreams.. can’t give up dreaming. Resource permitting, eager to materialize and implement them. Do stand by for more……
