Access To Addis Radisson Blu graduated Interns Graduation ceremony for 6 young people from background of limited career opportunities was held at Radisson Blu Hotel, Addis Ababa on 10th of August 2013. This graduation ceremony took place in the presence of graduates, graduates families, stake holders and honourable guests from different ministerial office The training which was conducted in partnership with SOS children village, Youth Career initiative (YCI), and Radisson Blu Hotel focused on young citizens between the ages of 18 and 21who come from insufficient training and employment prospects. The selection of these candidates has been done by SOS children village, SOS should also be accredited for taking the lead in approaching the hotel to participate in this program. The training has been ongoing in Addis Ababa for the past few years and Radisson Blu Hotel, Addis Ababa has taken its share of responsibility by taking part in this year’s training. Given that the leisure and tourism industry is one of the leading global service sectors with an ever increasing employment and career opportunities the 24 weeks long training is believed to have given the students an opportunity in learning regular, day–to-day operations of a full service hotel, enabling them to make informed carrier choices. The YCI programme has benefited by far 2,400 students in 12 countries since its inception in Bangkok, Thailand by the year1995. This initiative focuses on giving better educational options to young people who wouldn’t have the opportunities otherwise by making hotels the training centres. Each program provides over 750 training hours through a combination of theoretical and practical instruction, including mentoring in life and work skills, with most of the teaching coming from senior managers and highly experienced associates from within the hotels. The Radisson Blu Hotel Addis Ababa, as part of its Responsible Business program has engaged 6 trainees (Tigist Adamu Temesgen, Yegele Liben Mengesha, Sofanit Tesfaye Ayalew, Zufan Wesenu Yimer, Yodit Kebede Kassahun, Tigist Yimam Demisse) all of which are girls below the ages of 21.
