Access to quality mental healthcare is one way to reduce completed suicides. 50,000 completed suicides in 2013 in the United States. Very few are even remotely public as families are ashamed or angry or embarrassed. 50,000 completed suicides in 2013. How many people made a serious enough attempt but did not succeed? 100,000? Not sure but to take it a step further how many attempted but as a cry for help because they felt no one is listening?200,000? How many people have not attempted but have thought about it often? 500,000? Agencies like MHA provide primarily supportive services. Education, support, care management, peer to peer support. Studies have actually shown that these interventions are as powerful, if not more effective , powerful and meaningful than traditional therapy methods. Support agencies like MHAs throughout the Country. Support programs and services that give hope, recognize pain and provide interventions that can lift the darkness that people can feel. A terrible darkness that sometimes feels so heavy it can never be lifted. Funding cuts, reduction in insurance approved time with therapists and psychiatrists leaves people with the non clinical interventions that agencies like MHA provides. Support these agencies. They need YOU so that they can save others.
