According to CNET, the Toronto Humane Society created the video to shine a light on an ongoing problem...specifically, people who obtain a puppy (or kitten) and fail to follow through on a lifetime of commitment to their pet. Often, nobody witnesses the cruelty first-hand...a pet is dumped at a shelter and a new puppy is obtained from a breeder or via Craigslist. Other times, people show no shame - surrendering an old pet to an animal shelter and then walking through the aisles to find a new, younger companion (who will likely be dumped in the coming years). Hopefully the PuppySwap video will have the intended impact on some...helping them to realize that swapping out is simply a bad idea.
