According to Christian tradition, the child Jesus was born in a manger wrapped in swaddling clothes. Some accounts suggest that His birth was sometime during the fall season. The present day nativity scene we most often see somehow strikes me as a romanticised and sweetened version of the real circumstance of Christs birth. For all we know, Jesus birthplace was a filthy environment, considering it was a stable. There may have been lots of cow dung around the place and stink permeated the air. And the clothes that wrapped the baby Jesus were, well, most likely rags. Further making it challenging for the mother and child was that the fateful night might have been already chilly back then. So, Im tempted to think that had there been no divine intervention in this whole thing, Mary would have died of sepsis due to infection and the baby Jesus might have suffered the same fate. Going by all these, Im a bit baffled as to how and when we started getting obsessed with the monetised and materialistic celebration of Christmas. Its as if we are just using Christmas as our alibi for our selfishness and orgiastic vanity. If this example of selflessness and extreme humility by God wont bother our conscience, I dont know what will. https://youtube/watch?v=C1DZA_TdBBI
