According to #Gazas MoH, Israel has killed 1,865 Palestinians, and wounded a further 9,563 (as of 21.15 local time, Monday 4 August). Those killed Monday included brother and sister Mohammad (12) and Amal (5) Amjad Oweida - an Israeli airstrike hit their home while they were playing on the roof. UN OCHAs latest briefing (dated 15.00 3 August) gave a figure of 373 children killed - the MoH says this number is 429. UN OCHA suggested that around 25% of the Gaza Strips population is forcibly displaced, including 10,366 families whose homes were totally destroyed or sustained major damage. UN OCHA also noted that up to 30 July, at least 76 families had lost three or more family members in the same incident. Another example of this kind of atrocity took place Sunday, when an Israeli aerial attack on the house of Al Ghoul family in Rafah resulted in the killing of eight family members including two women, three children (1 month, three years and 13 years old) and injury to seven others. Monday, Human Rights Watch published a news briefing on Israeli forces shooting dead fleeing civilians in Khuzaa (see bit.ly/1xXUAUm), more evidence of war crimes. Authorities in Gaza currently estimate the cost of the devastation at around $5-6 billion, with 70% of water wells gone, and significant damage to the power plant and government buildings (in addition to the tens of thousands of destroyed or damaged civilian homes). Meanwhile, the Israeli death toll stands at 67 (64 of them military fatalities).
