According to Michael Olatunbosun,a news personality and also a presenter at SplashFM105.5 situated at Felele,Ibadan,Oyo State says and i quote, Polytechnics play a vital role in the education, scientific and technological progress of Nigeria. They are established to train and produce the technical manpower necessary for the execution of the nations development plans, goals and strategies. This is a role which they have effectively played since the establishment of the first polytechnic,Yaba College of Technology in 1947. Under the nations education policy, polytechnics were set up to provide mid-level manpower that will drive the technology development of the nation. But the polytechnics are pushing for legislation to abolish and prohibit the dichotomy and discrimination between university and polytechnic graduates which scaled the second reading on the floor of the Senate. They now want to produce graduates who would be on the same level with university graduates. What now happens to middle level manpower requirement? Will this affect the quality of polytechnic graduates? What are your thoughts?
