According to Sojourn chaplaincy, my internship site while in seminary, the test of any society is how it treats its poor, the marginalized, the oppressed -- everyone. Two key characteristics of chaplaincy is to offer unbridled compassion (to every single person) and a nonjudgmental space to cope with, experience, and engage with the many nuances of life -- a space that I believe is largely unavailable to most people. Today is my first day as a full-time Chaplain resident. I am grateful to have the opportunity to integrate the anti-oppressive framework I was taught in seminary with a deep desire to be a part of The Solution by attempting to live into the role of chaplain. I am nervous, excited, and very very aware that this work will transform my life and (hopefully) serve as a catalyst for change, healing, and love for other individuals, families, communities, and therefore societies. Blessings to everyone else starting/returning to jobs today. Lets get em!!
