According to UNICEF, Forty three per cent of Indian children under five years are underweight and 48 per cent (i.e. 61 million children) are stunted due to chronic undernutrition, India accounts for more than 3 out of every 10 stunted children in the world. In these circumstances, it is highly condemnable that the TamilNadu government has decided to increase the Aavin milk price by 10.Rs/litre. Indian women and children are suffering due to undernutrition, increasing the milk price would worsen situation of middle class, lower middle class people and poor people in particular. TamilNadu Government should focus on reducing the money spent over unnecessary populist schemes instead of raising the prices of such essential commodities.
