According to a venerable doctrine called divine simplicity, God is - TopicsExpress

According to a venerable doctrine called divine simplicity, God is identical to his attributes. eg. God isnt truthful. God is truth. God isnt loving. God is love. This was believed by the likes of Augustine, Anselm and Aquinas, so it has provenance. Its also believed (Im told) by various Jewish and Muslim theologians. From a Christian point of view, an atheist who believes in love, truth, goodness, beauty etc is actually a confused theist. From an atheist point of view, a person who believes in love, truth, goodness, beauty etc is actually a confused atheist. But the thing that really matters is they both believe in love, truth, goodness, beauty etc. If anything can save humanity from our inherent nastiness, it will be a life-giving belief in love, truth, goodness, beauty that expresses itself in concrete action. The opposite will also be true, no matter a persons abstract belief system. (A nasty Christian is every bit as destructive as a nasty atheist.) - Allan Smith
