According to analysts, the trans-Atlantic trade route grew faster than its larger East-West and North-South rivals, for much of 2014. Drewry Shipping Consultants recently reported that, in the first eight months of the 2014, shipping traffic between North America and Europe (including the Mediterranean) grew an estimated 6.1 percent; year-over-year. This performance was driven by an 8.7 percent increase on the westbound leg of the route. In similar fashion, the Far East-Europe trade recorded a 5.8 percent increase, with westbound shipping volume rising 8.2 percent. The trans-Pacific grew just 3.3 percent on a 6.5 percent rise on shipments coming out of Asia.
