According to records, so far there has not been any successful attempt for a person with disability (amputated above knee) to scale up to the summit of Mt. Everest! It will be cool to hold such a record as above knee amputations poses considerably more rehabilitation challenges than below knee amputation since the absence of a knee joint greatly impairs an amputee’s ability to walk. Above knee amputation would seem a strong predictor of greater activity restriction which, in turn, causes higher levels of depression. One reason is that these amputees feel more vulnerable and less able to defend themselves than do those with greater mobility. Having said that, the determination, mental and physical strength of each Everest climber especially the ones who successfully conquer the summit are worthy of our admiration.
