According to reports flying around recently, it is believed that Spanish number one goalkeeper and Real Madrid’s favourite player Iker Casillas is considering an offer from Arsenal. Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger is a fan of the 32-year old goalkeeper who is believed to be tired of playing a bit-part role in Real Madrid’s title challenge. San Iker, as he is popularly known in Madrid, lost his place to Diego Lopez after a power struggle with erstwhile Real coach Jose Mourinho and has been unable to reclaim it ever since. However, the appointment of Italian coach, Carlo Ancelotti last summer has seen the Real Cantera graduate given playing time in cup competitions only. It is therefore believed that Arsenal’s offer is one in which he will become the club’s number one goalkeeper ahead of incumbent Szczezny, and the World CU winning captain is seriously thinking about it. Casillas, the most capped goalkeeper of all time in the UEFA Champions League and also the most capped player of all time for the Spanish national team, has been at the club since 1998 and has won everything possible at club and international level, therefore, a new challenge could be an excuse for making a deal. He is however, a darling of the club who see him as an institution and his departure could spark a public outburst against the club’s president and the board. It remains to be seen if Arsene Wenger can pull this off as a usually busy summer reportedly beckons for The Gunners.
