According to the Cultural Conservancy, the idea of regeneration is tied to the traditional practices of indigenous and native people. Indigeneity is a paradigm of regeneration, a worldview rooted in enduring values in what we call our ‘Original Instructions’ - common themes of reciprocity, gratitude, responsibility, generosity, forgiveness, humility, courage, sacrifice, and of course love. But these values are not just words; we need to live them. - Melissa Nelson, President, The Cultural Conservancy As we celebrate new beginnings with the start of 2015, what are some resolutions youre making that will connect you to your cultural roots? Why is it important to connect with native traditions in spite of demands to keep up with the latest technology or advancements of the modern world? How is preservation related to regeneration? In 2010, the Guam Humanities Council implemented a multifaceted project titled, Land and Sea: Ecological Literacy on the US Pacific Island of Guam, to promote literacy around the principles of ecology and sustainability in order to better grow democracy. The project was supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
