According to the Daily Star, Arsene Wenger has made a defender his No.1 priority in January and the Gunners are monitoring Athletic Bilbao centre-back Aymeric Laporte. The young Frenchman, 20, earned rave reviews at the heart of the Basque sides defence last term, as Ernesto Valverdes men claimed a top four finish. But Athletic have struggled so far this season, and have endured difficulties in the Champions League. As such, the man who has made 53 La Liga appearances and represented France at under-21 level could be allowed to leave if the price is right - although his release clause stands at a prohibitive £32million.
