According to the Dalai Lama (2009), the Four Noble Truths are the very foundation of the Buddhist Teaching. The fundamental principles of Buddhsim are that all things are interdependent and that non-violence is key (The XIV Dalai Lama, 2009). The principles of dependent origin within Buddhism also relate the journey of cause and effect, the difference between relative and ultimate truth, suffering and happiness, as well as the connection between existence and perception, which are all critical to its understanding. The Fourth Noble Truth is also the True Path where a direct understanding of emptiness has been achieved and only now could an intellectual understanding begin. In preparation for that Path, the Practitioner takes higher training in wisdom, concentration, and morality (The XIV Dalai Lama, 2009). Furthermore, a Buddhist learns much in the ways of compassion and receives the understanding that its not enough just to have compassion but one must have a life of altruistic aspiration including a search for personal enlightenment as a means of being the most useful one can be in the world (The XIV Dalai Lama, 2009). The body flows with energies that certain yogas and tantric processes reveal (The XIV Dalai Lama, 2009). The mind flows with delusion as in impatience, non-optimality, and wrongness. It is essential to understand the four Noble Truths so that one can build the refuge of Dharma, and come to fully appreciate Sangha. In this new journey, one may find that determination and patience are interrelated with encouragement from improvement. A moment may occur when all is truly well…all is in perfect peace. But this moment is not enlightenment, the rest of the life then spent sharing that moment is enlightenment!! A moment of such inner strength and stillness that no worries could even assail the observer, much less the Buddhist, forms an entirely new quantum universe.
