According to the Dalai Lama, there is no conflict between his own spiritual pursuits and those of modern science. Quite simply, if any principles of Buddhist thought are found to be wrong by employing the scientific method, “Buddhism will have to change.” Just as he did in his 2005 address to the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience, the Dalai Lama emphasized that his deeply held religious philosophy was both enriched and informed by an empirical worldview. The Dalai Lama used an example of discovering that the Moon had shadows on its surface when viewed from a telescope or magnified pictures. This provided contrary evidence that the moon radiated its own light; he discovered that the Sun actually reflected light on the moon. Science contradicted Buddhism, and thus Buddhist teachings needed to change. If religion and/or spirituality is to evolve to meet the needs of modern society it must do so with mutual respect. Science is reductionist and built upon what we can see and measure. Spiritual and religious teachings are often what we feel and know with out knowing how, they should be tested and explored to gain deeper understandings. I will never reject God because I cannot PROVE God does not exists or Disprove the existence of God. I have believe systems and prayers that are validated daily though and I believe this physical reality is just a scratch of the surface compared to what spiritual reality exists beneath it. NDE research and spontaneous recovery research has shown us that scientifically unexplainable miracles happen. They are unexplainable because we have yet to ask the right questions, to develop appropriate methods and technology to study them. When we do my faith tells me we will discover that we are spiritual beings having a human experience. And that is my soap box for the night. 3.bp.blogspot/-6rL7ZpNdrNU/UJyiR4iybZI/AAAAAAAANRw/ch95X--GpuI/s640/Follow+your+heart+but+take+your+brain+with+you.jpg
