According to the Government, you don’t have the Right to Know - TopicsExpress

According to the Government, you don’t have the Right to Know How they Spend your Money. Makes Sense Right? Currently the Conservative Government is Looking to Spend Hundreds of Millions of Dollar Building new Ships for the Arctic. How Much Exactly? None of Your Business, Apparently, That’s what the Conservative Government Says. The PBO (Parliamentary Budget Officer- essentially the watchdog of the government, meant to inform the public how much money the government is spending.) has been Denied Requests for Details on the Exact Costs/Budget for the Ships. This isn’t the First time the PBO has been Denied the Information Requests Regarding Government Spending, in fact Earlier this Spring the PBO took the Government to Court for the right to Collect Information on Government Spending (AKA do his job) and the Courts Ruled that Not Only Does the Government have to Release Information on its Spending to the PBO, but that it also Doesn’t have to Release Information on Spending to MP’s or Anybody Else. So Now, The Government Can Spend your Money Secretly Without Having to Reveal how it does so to you or to your Elected Representative, or Even to the Person Whose Sole Job it is to Analyze the Governments Spending for the Public. Is this what a Democracy looks like? Why is this Government so Bent on Secrecy, its not like they Campaigned on Transparency…… Oh Wait….. The Reality of the Situation is that the Conservatives only Believe in the Principals of Democracy when it Suites them and when it comes to Embarrassingly Grotesque Spending on Military Acquisitions, it doesn’t. ipolitics.ca/2013/07/23/why-was-f-35-data-available-to-the-pbo-but-arctic-ships-data-remains-secret/
