According to the International Red Cross in 1982, by the end of the first week of the war in Lebanon alone, some 10,000 people, including 2,000 combatants, had been killed, and 16,000 wounded—a civilian-combatant fatality ratio of 5:1. Lebanese government sources later estimated that by the end of the siege of Beirut, a total of about 18,000 had been killed, an estimated 85% of whom were civilians. Later on the Lebanese government revised its estimate for the number of civilians killed in the 1982 war to 1,000 killed. What a political play is this? Why dont more people really go back and check out these data? And what about all the tens of thousands dead under PLO rule in Lebanon, and during the PLO riots in Jordan (1969-1971). In 2014 it should be possible to have a better standard of sharing civilian deaths from terrorists. As this painting now comes out of Gaza, most of the Hamas operatives are counted as civilians!
