According to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MoH) of Liberia, one “confirmed” case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) was reported in Foya on 05 June 2014. The person involved was placed in isolation under supportive treatment. However, following re-testing a few days later, the person was confirmed NEGATIVE for EVD. On 09 June 2014, two suspected cases, both nationals of Sierra Leone who crossed the border, were reported in Foya district and have been placed on isolation. Blood samples were collected and were confirmed NEGATIVE for EVD. On 11 June 2014, five (5) suspected cases were identified in Montserrado Country ( New Kru Town, Bushroad Island ). The persons involved had come from Sierra Leone and passed through Foya on their way to Montserrado County. Four (4) of the suspected cases died and one (1) admitted at ELWA Hospital on isolation. Blood samples were collected pending results. As of 13 June, according to the MoH, total cumulative cases (confirmed/probable/suspect) is 30 with confirmed death in Liberia of 7. WHO has continued reporting on the situation in Guinea as well as new occurrences in Sierra Leone. Gueckedou in Guinea and Kailahun district, Koindu town in Sierra Leone, are both locations opposite Foya town. Therefore, there is concern that the risk of disease importation is higher in this area around Foya.
