According to the Mirror, a Newcastle United fans’ group will lead a march protesting Mike Ashley’s ownership of the club. The campaign, called a Time for Change, plan to publicly show their resentment towards the Magpies owner before the club’s home match against Liverpool on October 19th, a match that will be on TV. The march isn’t solely about ousting Mike Ashley, however, but about changing the direction of the entire club. Newcastle supporters find themselves angry after the hiring of Joe Kinnear as director of football and the club’s inability to add any big name signings with the exception of a season-long loan move for Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy. The club were heavily linked with a move for French striker Bafetimbi Gomis to help provide cover up front but the move never materialized after it appeared Gomis was likely to transfer to Newcastle in August. Graeme Cansdale, who led a meeting for the protesting group, spoke out to reveal the goal of the campaign. “We want to put the club in the shop window,” Cansdale said, according to the Mirror. “This is not just about protesting against Ashley. If people come together on this march, someone might come forward.” Newcastle had a rough start to the season, losing 4-0 to Manchester City, but rebounded with a draw against West Ham and a 1-0 win over London side Fulham.
