According to the latest labor force survey of the PCBS for the 1st quarter of 2014, the unemployment rate has increased to 38.5% in the Gaza Strip, reflecting the desastrous impact of the tightened blockade and siege on Gazas economy. The overall unemployment rate in the oPt has reached 26.2%, while women continued to register a much higher unemployment rate (36.5%) than men (23.3%). Likewise, unemployment among youth aged 20-24 years remained dauntingly high, at 43.0%, and almost half the women with 13 years of schooling or more were unemployed.
