According to this research (2000, so not as recent as preferred, but has some useful info), Children with (dyslexia) often have associated deficits in related domains such as oral language acquisition (dysphasia), writing abilities (dysgraphia and misspelling), mathematical (calculations/facts) (dyscalculia), motor coordination (dyspraxia), postural stability and dexterity, temporal orientation (`dyschronia), visuospatial abilities (developmental right-hemisphere syndrome), and attentional abilities (hyperactivity and attention deficit disorder) (Weintraub and Mesulam, 1983; Rapin and Allen, 1988; Dewey, 1995; Gross-Tsur et al., 1995, 1996; Fawcett et al., 1996). So much for the SLD umbrella--it all fits in the dyslexia suitcase--though we question ADHD as attention is only subjectively determined and environment/task dependent, so likely only a factor in those children who exhibit the traits in all environments/tasks. Besides their multiple possible interrelations and associations, all these developmental syndromes share in common their relative `specificity, i.e. the fact that general intelligence is intact, as reflected in a normal or above normal non-verbal IQ. Depending on the pattern of such associated disorders, verbal and performance IQ may show usual (verbal < performance) or reversed dissociation. brain.oxfordjournals.org/content/123/12/2373
