Ace review from James R Turner in CRS for the last Dodson and Fogg - TopicsExpress

Ace review from James R Turner in CRS for the last Dodson and Fogg album. Really pleased! Prolific isn’t the word for Chris Wade, musical mastermind behind Dodson & Fogg. This was his 4th album of 2013, and also the 4th D&F release, picking up where the Sounds Of Day And Night left off, and embracing the psychedelic mood wholeheartedly. With superb guests like Chloe Hetherington, Ricky Romain, Colin Jones and the sublime vocals of Celia Humphries, Wade knows how to get the best out of his guests. The mystical opener Mystery sounds like a descendant of the Incredible String Band and Pink Floyd, whilst Watch The Skies is a rockier number that is driven along by Wade’s wonderfully distorted guitar and rabid soloing, whilst Suddenly brings Summer ’66 back to life, with its brilliant acoustic guitar/sitar duel between Wade and Romain. Windmills and I Remember are pure slices of English Psych Folk, and would have slotted into any Island Records sampler of the early 1970’s, whilst the brilliant brass driven rock out of Nothing Can Come Between Us No More, and Wade’s superb vocals, make it one of the best tracks he’s written so far. The beautiful It’s Not Time To Leave is haunting and a wonderful meeting of Chris & Celia’s vocals. Musically and vocally Wade is much more confident, with the soloing on Suddenly, the hard edged title track, and the building, epic climax of the closing Running Round In Circles. This is another successful progression from Chris Wade and pushes D&F further on musically again, and after the year he’s had, 2014, if there’s any God, D&F should be massive.
